TPS Insurance is
an independent insurance agency selling all
lines of insurance and represents
many fine Insurance Companies.
Below is a brief history of the agency written for
Owatonna's Sesquicentennial which was celebrated in the summer
of 2004.
Cline Tincher
started the agency in 1912 in Owatonna and operated as C.A.
Tincher. The original office was in City Hall. That didn’t
last very long and they moved to another downtown location.
The first company represented was United States Fidelity and
Guaranty. Their State Agent was a gentleman by the name of
Thiemer and for a while the agency was known as Thiemer and
Tincher.
Oscar Peterson
came in to the agency during the Depression (circa 1932) and
they moved their office into what is now the Wells Fargo
Bank building. During this period they also worked for the
Associated Mutuals which were part of the Kemper Group. At
that time Mr. Theimer left the agency. The agency
represented all mutual companies after the depression.
Ty Sincock came
to Owatonna and joined the agency in 1947 after experience
as a field representative for Safeco Insurance Company. He
stayed with the agency until 1977. They had several downtown
locations during this time and were in the building next to
the Armory across from Federated since 1960.
Andy Wolf joined
the agency in 1968 and purchased the interest of Oscar
Peterson. Thomas G. Effertz joined the agency in 1975 and
purchased the interest of Ty Sincock. Mr. Effertz then
purchased the interest of Mr. Wolf in 1983.
Terri Effertz and
George Effertz joined the agency in 1984 and David Effertz
in 1999. The agency has operated out of it’s present
location at 285 18th St. SE since 1984.
